The Brazilian Ceasas were created with the aim of improving the national supply system through the institutionalization of regional markets and increasing productivity and structure of food distribution in a country of continental dimension. As a result it was highlighted the contribution in the fight against rising food prices, the market organization and the formation of productive chains.

Although trade in horticulture is the main business of supply centers, economic diversity, in the same area, promoted the structuring of economic activities complementary goods and services. Among these activities are the trade in grain, meat, processed foods, agricultural inputs, packaging, restaurants, and personal financial services, public health agencies, education and security, among others.

In this sense, the Brazilian supply centers play an important role in food distribution, contributing to the regularity of supply and providing conditions in order to enable growth in the quality of products offered.
